Thrifty Thursday: Organizing on the Cheap

Have you been into Dollar Tree lately? One of the stores near me is constantly adding new items to their inventory. It's always so much fun to see the new things!

I have been trying to get our home in order/organized. Stuff is everywhere since we live in a smaller place without a lot of room. Walking into Dollar Tree, I noticed that they had these super cute bins!

They only had three colors, but I knew that I'd be able to put them to good use! The best part--they were only $1! I decided to use them to store towels in since they are constantly falling over on the shelves. I also picked up a smaller one to store our wash rags in.

They help out so much! I will definitely be going back for more. I think these would be useful for storing toys, hair appliances, blankets, diapers, and so much more! The possibilities are endless!

Last Day for $25 Off Diapers on Amazon!

Today is the last day to take advantage of this amazing deal!!

Wow! If you're not a member of Amazon Mom yet and have children in diapers, this is a deal that you might want to sign up for. Right now, you can sign up for a FREE 3 month trial of Amazon Mom AND receive $25 off your first pack of diaper. You'll also get free shipping! Like with almost everything, I tried this deal out before posting it and it's totally legit. Check out this amazing deal that I got on Seventh Generation size 4 diapers!

I paid $8.89 for 135 diapers! Amazing!

Here's what you'll need to do to get this promotion:

1. Head over to Amazon Mom and sign up for a 3 month trial before 8/30. You will need to enter your credit card information because after the 3 month trial, they will automatically charge you the $39 for the membership. (To avoid that charge, all you need to do is cancel your membership once you receive the diapers.)

2.Add a pack of eligible diapers to your cart. (Don't forget to click Subscribe and Save and any coupons listed on the page to get a lower price.)

3. At checkout, enter promo code BABYTIME. (The code initially didn't want to work for me, but when I put a space between BABY and TIME, it worked perfectly.)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's an example of the deal that I did:
Bought one pack of size 4 Seventh Generation diapers $46.55
-Clipped the $4.00 coupon on the page to bring total down to $42.55
-Selected the option for Subscribe & Save on the right hand side to bring my total down to $37.24. (I chose to have the "Delivery every 6 months" option so that I could remember to cancel the account before being charged.

-Clicked Subscribe Now.
-At checkout, add BABYTIME or BABY TIME in the promo code box.
-As shown above, when all was said and done I paid $8.89! I aim to spend 15¢ or less per diaper. With this deal, I spent 6¢ per diaper!

NOTE: Amazon's prices can change at any time, meaning that they can go up in price or go down lower.

Thanks, Hip2Save & Jen!

How to Save Money Using Your Smartphone

Nowadays, fewer people are using laptops and printers and more people are using smartphones. You can still save money using just your phone, though! It's easy!

Ibotta is a mobile app that pays you to go shopping! It involves completing simple tasks (like learning about a product) and then adding the product offer to your account (similar to an e-coupon). After buying the product in store, you take a picture of your receipt, and then your account will be credited within 24 hours. Right now, they have a special offer where you will receive $10 for signing up with Ibotta!

Target Cartwheel is a program that takes a percentage off your purchase of different items. To learn more about how to use Cartwheel, check out my "Target Cartwheel: More Ways to Save Money" post. Cartwheel is an amazing way to save extra money on fresh produce or clothing items!

Using the Savingstar program is very similar to using ecoupons. The main difference is that the coupon amount isn't deducted at the register when you checkout in the store. The money is credited to your Savingstar account instead. Once your account reaches $5.00, then you can choose to have it deposited into your bank account or receive it by Paypal, Amazon gift card, or donated to American Forests. You can add the iPhone app by going here. Or if you would like to add the Android app you can go here.

If you know of any other legit phone apps that help you to save money, I'd love to hear about them! I don't have a smartphone myself, so I'm living vicariously through those of you who do. ☺

Fashion Friday: FREE Christopher & Banks Necklace ($19.95 Value)

Yesterday on Facebook, I mentioned that there was a coupon for $20.00 off a Christopher & Banks purchase (in-store only) until August 25. This coupon has no minimum purchase requirement. I decided to check out their website and really liked the clothing items that I saw. Unfortunately, everything was a bit out of my price range. BUT I knew that the $20 coupon would lend way to something free--and I was right!

I looked online under the the accessories category and hit the jackpot! A lot of the accessories were under $20! Woot! I rarely buy jewelry for myself. It's just not something at the top of my to-do list. I would rather spend any extra money on something for my husband or son or something for the house. This time I would get to something for myself for super cheap!

While in-store, I spotted this gorgeous Autumnal Heart Drop necklace for only $19.95! I was planning on using the coupon to just get this one item for free. When I got up there, the lady asked, "The items are Buy one, get one 50% off. Are you sure you don't want to get another item?" I caved. I had been looking at the matching earrings anyway. (You don't have to cave and buy another item. You could simply get the necklace for FREE!)

$5.00 well-spent!

To find a Christopher & Banks store near you, simply enter your zip code into the store locator on their website.

A little note: This coupon can't be used on clearance items.

What's Cookin': Creamy Old Fashioned Oatmeal

One of my most favorite foods is oatmeal--but that's if it's cooked the proper way. My Grandmother knew the way to do it. Her oatmeal was always so creamy and sweet. The last time that I went home to Georgia (oh yes, I'm a Southern girl), I watched the way my Grandmother cooked her oatmeal. She never followed a written recipe, so I needed to pay attention to how to she did it.

In all honesty, now that I cook my own oatmeal I don't follow a recipe either. I just eyeball everything and taste as I go. For the purpose of this post, I actually used measuring cups and measuring spoons. *gasp* Today, I'll be sharing a recipe for Creamy Old Fashioned Oatmeal.

Ingredients:
1.5 cups old-fashioned oatmeal
2 cups water
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp butter
1/2 c. milk

Directions:
1. Pour water and oatmeal into a pot and place on the stove with a medium-high heat setting.

2. Once the oatmeal begins to boil, add the butter. Then, gradually stir in the milk, sugar, and vanilla.
3. Set the heat on medium-low and cook for 5 minutes longer.

Your end result should be creamy goodness.

On the Wall Tissue Holder

A few months back, I was shopping at a few thrift sales near my home. At one of those sales, I came across a wall rack. The thought I had in mind was to paint it pretty and hang it near the front door so that we would have a place to hang our jackets. I decided to change my mind and came up with a different idea.

I started out with this:

It was white, and I wanted something brighter...like a green. The knobs had come unsealed, but a little hot glue made it good as new. I ended up with this:

This looks great in our bathroom! Our bathroom is pretty small and we don't have a lot of space under our sink. Putting the tissue on the wall helps us to save space. Also, if guests are using the bathroom and run out of tissue, they don't have to go rambling through the cabinets to find some. This is in plain view.

I used thumb tacks to attach it to the wall and since tissue is so light, it has not problem staying up there!

Such a fun, easy project that cost me a buck! (The tissue and paint were both free! Stick around, you'll find all kinds of ways to get free stuff!)
